LAHORE – Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Mushtaq Sukhera has made 85 senior police officers, who had got promoted out of turn, Officers on Special Duty (OSD).
According to a notification on Thursday night 85 senior police officers, including 20 Superintendent of Police (SP) and 65 Deputy Superintendent of Police were made OSDs.
The ranks of these officers were reverted a few months back following the orders of the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan.
The SC had ordered the reversion of their ranks on the charge of becoming out of turn promotions.
Still, they had got stay orders from double bench of the SC against the reversion orders and the lawsuit is even pending.
All these officers were working along the stay orders when all of a sudden the IGP ordered making them OSD.
While talking to a private TV channel former SP CIA Umar Virk confirmed that the IGP had made them OSD and claimed that the decision came as surprising to him as their case was still pending with the SC and its next hearing was on June 29th.
Prominent among those who were made OSD include District Police Officer (DPO) Khushab Faisal Gulzar Awan, SP CIA Faisalabad Ijaz Shafi Dogar, DPO Mandi Bahauddin Raja Basharat Mahmood and DPO Gujrat Rai Zameer-UL-Haq.
