LAHORE – Perhaps for the first time in the history, it is very likely that Eid al-Fitr might be celebrated on the same day in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan this year.
Under the supervision of Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman, Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee on Tuesday will hold a meeting in Lahore to sight the Shawwal moon.
According to the sources, Middle East states including Saudi Arabia will conduct a session to sight the moon today whereas the experts said that possibilities of moon sighting in Pakistan are less today but high on Tuesday.
According to meteorologists if Saudi Arabia celebrates Eid after observing 30 fasts and Pakistan does it after 29 fasts, then both countries will observe Eid on the same day.
Weather specialists said that the moon would also likely to be witnessed in Punjab areas including Lahore which is an indication that Saudi Arabia and Pakistan would celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Wednesday.
Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in Islamabad would also meet for the same purpose.
