ISLAMABAD: A local court in Islamabad handed down 16-year imprisonment to former federal minister of religious affairs, Hamid Saeed Kazmi, and 40-year imprisonment to ex-DG Hajj Rao Shakeel Ahmed in Hajj corruption case, Samaa reported Friday.
The court delivered its ruling after six years of hearings into the hajj scandal.
According to our correspondent, the Special Judge Central Malik Nazeer issued the verdict, sentencing PPP government minister Hamid Saeed Kazmi to 16 years and Rao Shakeel 40 years in prison.
Special prosecutor of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and other concerned officials were present in the court when the judgement was issued.
